| Resumo: | This article examines the introduction of Graham Greene's "The power and the glory" (1940) in Franco's times. The reception of the novel in Europe is taken into consideration before examining its introduction in Francoist Spain. Accordingly, the paper examines the French bishop's denunciation of "La puissance et la gloire" (1948) in the late 1940s. The Holy See's warning to Greene in 1953 is also taken into consideration. Despite being one of the most published of Greene's books in Spain, the investigation reveals that the novel was banned in 1953. What is more, a notification sent by the Secretary-General for Information in 1954 indicates that the political authority wanted to make sure that "The power and the glory" had not reached Spanish readers. |
