Summary:In March 1937, the architect Jordi Tell Novellas (Barcelona, 1907 – Fredrikstad, Norway, 1991) was jailed in A Coruña Provincial Prison, having been returned from Germany, where he had been arrested by the Gestapo for his support for the Spanish Republic. During his 15 months in captivity, Tell gave free rein to his true vocation: drawing and painting. The interior of his cell, as well as portraits and caricatures of other prisoners, are the focus of the more than 40 drawings catalogued to date. This artistic drive helped Tell at different points in his life, from both a material and psychological point of view. It is a further demonstration of how art nourishes the soul
