| Sumario: | [EN] The Unité d’Habitation of Briey-en-Forêt by Le Corbusier appears as a concrete steamboat stranded in the heart of a forest in a small town of northeastern France. Precisely its location will be the source of political conflicts throughout its first 30 years of life, being on the verge of demolition after a period of closure. Among the 4 Unités built by Le Corbusier in France, this is the least publicized, perhaps because it lacked the community services so successful in the Marseille project. These services, which were to be implemented at street level in different building, finally are not developed. It is the apartments hosted in the interior of Unité that will be analysed in detail. Concrete will be the leading material, although with different finishes than those seen in the previous projects of Marseille and Nantes-Rezé. In Briey, new formwork techniques will be used to speed up the construction processes. |
