description ENG- This research analyses youth participation in the community sphere as a central element for empowerment. The thesis examines the contribution of socio-educational professionals to the promotion of community-based youth participation, with the aim of fostering collective empowerment. The three studies that make up the research address the relationship between community youth participation and the work of professionals who engage directly with young people. The first study shows that socio-educational projects with a focus on youth empowerment tend to concentrate on the development of individual skills, without sufficiently addressing the collective dimension of empowerment, such as participation or community identification. We consider this to be partly due to the increasing influence of individualism — also present in socio-educational practices — and to the lack of reflective time within educational teams, which hinders their ability to take a critical stance on their own work. The second study focuses on the barriers encountered by youth professionals when promoting community participation. Key obstacles include adults’ resistance to sharing decision-making power and the appropriation of the concept of participation by public administrations, which often use it instrumentally. The third study explores how young people describe participation through their life stories. The study highlights how their concept of participation is tied to recognition within formally established spaces and disconnected from collective involvement in favour of individual engagement

La tesi es pregunta per la contribució dels professionals de l’acció socioeducativa en el foment de la participació juvenil comunitària, amb l’objectiu de contribuir a l’empoderament col·lectiu. Els tres estudis que constitueixen la recerca aborden la relació entre la participació juvenil en l’àmbit comunitari i l’acció dels professionals que treballen directament amb persones joves. El primer estudi revela que els projectes socioeducatius amb voluntat d’empoderament juvenil solen limitar-se a fomentar habilitats individuals, sense abordar profundament variables de la dimensió col·lectiva del concepte, com la participació o la identificació comunitària. Considerem que això es deu, en part, a la influència de l’individualisme creixent, també en les formes d’intervenció socioeducativa, i a la manca de temps de reflexió per part dels equips educatius, cosa que els dificulta ser crítics amb la seva tasca. El segon estudi se centra en les barreres que els professionals de joventut es troben a l’hora de promoure una participació juvenil en l’àmbit comunitari. Destaquen les resistències dels adults a compartir poder de decisió i l’apropiació del concepte de participació per part de les administracions públiques, que sovint l’instrumentalitzen. El tercer estudi s’enfoca en com els joves descriuen la participació des de les seves biografies.
