| Sumario: | A detailed mapping of the Zufia Formation near Estella-Lizarra (Navarra) has led to the discovery of a shallow-water marine carbonate-terrigenous unit of early Cenomanian age. The Aramendia unit consists basically of calcarenites. Facies analysis, lateral and vertical distribution are used to build a sedimentary model of a carbonate shoal. The calcarenitic shoal separates two principal domains: 7/ to the south, a back-shoal trough with calcarenitic material exported from the shoal and terrigenous input derived from the terrestrial hinterland, and 2/ a deeper fore-shoal trough with marly sedimentation and occasional intercalation of shoal derived beds. This fore-shoal area is devoid of terrigenous input after the shoal-barrier effect. A tectonic control influenced the foundation of the shoal on a structural paleohigh |
