Although forests dominated by Canarian juniper (Juniperus turbinata subsp. canariensis) cover less than one tenth of the natural vegetation of the island, almost a fifth of the total vascular flora of El Hierro is present in them. A third of the taxa found is endemic and two thirds is formed by annual plants. The importance of the syndrome of herbaceous plants with dry fruit, present in almost two thirds of the taxa found, is discussed. It is in these dry environments of very fragmented forests where there appear to have been rather fast processes in the evolutionary biology of some endemic plants.[ES]Se ha estudiado la riqueza florística y las características corológicas, formas vitales, status florístico y algunos síndromes fenotípicos de los taxones que se encuentran en los fragmentos de sabinar. Aunque los bosques dominado por sabina canaria (Juniperus turbinata subsp. canariensis) cubren menos de una décima parte de la vegetación natural de la Isla, en ellos está presente casi una quinta parte del total de la flora vascular de El Hierro. Una tercera parte de los taxones encontrados es endémica y dos tercios lo forman las plantas anuales. Se comenta la importancia que tiene el síndrome de planta herbácea con fruto seco, presente casi en 2/3 de los taxones encontrados.
