Studies on oriental Membracidae (Hem. Homoptera)

Distant (1908, 1916), Evans (1948) and Menon et al. (1958) recorded about 181 species distributed over 45 genera of the group Membracidae from the Oriental region. Besides, valuable contributions were made by Funkhouser (1950), Goding (1903, 1926, 1932 and 1934) from elsewhere. However, their concep...

Descripción
Sumario:Distant (1908, 1916), Evans (1948) and Menon et al. (1958) recorded about 181 species distributed over 45 genera of the group Membracidae from the Oriental region. Besides, valuable contributions were made by Funkhouser (1950), Goding (1903, 1926, 1932 and 1934) from elsewhere. However, their concepts of the species category are sound and based primarily on external morphology and colourations. The significant character of genital armature in the recognition of genera/species are absent in their works on Membracidae. The main object of the present study is to advance our knowledge of the oriental Membracidae by delineating the genital structures of each species.
