| Resumo: | [EN]The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a robust tool for geomorphological analysis and modeling in volcanic landscapes, in this case applied to coastal platforms-forming eruptions. From current topographic-bathymetric maps and after intensive geological field work, Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) representative of two key palaeogeomorphological evolutionary stages were obtained: before the eruption (pre-eruption) and at the end of the eruption (post-eruption). Comparison of these two DTMs with the present day DTM allows precise and detailed modeling of the main morphometric parameters involved in both aggradation (due to volcanic activity) and degradation (due to erosive activity) of terrain. The Holocene volcanic eruption of Montaña del Tesoro (El Hierro, Canary Islands) was selected as case study to develop and calibrate the methodology presented in this work, due to the excellent exposition of the volcanic formations, its age (ca. 9 ka) and the detailed topographic and bathymetric maps available of this area. |
