The variables analyzed were: 20 anthropometric measurements, body mass index, sum of four skinfolds, muscle percentage, somatotype and throwing velocity. There were no significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) for the variables that characterize the sample or for somatotype or throwing velocity in the various categories. All categories in this study had an endomesomorph somatotype except for the U16 team which had a meso-endomorph somatotype. The results confirm that there is a similar handball player prototype in all the age categories. The mesomorphic component is predominant; thus, it can be deduced that musculoskeletal strength in women’s handball is decisiveEl objetivo de este estudio fue describir y comparar las características antropométricas, composición corporal,Vsomatotipo y velocidad de lanzamiento de las jugadoras de balonmano de la selección española de diferentes categorías. Fueron estudiadas 59 jugadoras de balonmano, todas ellas pertenecen a las categorías juvenil, junior y sénior. Las variables analizadas fueron: 20 medidas antropométricas, el índice de masa corporal, sumatorio de cuatro pliegues, porcentaje muscular, el somatotipo y las velocidades de lanzamiento. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p ≤ 0,05) en las variables que caracterizan a la muestra así como en el somatotipo y velocidad de lanzamiento en los distintos equipos nacionales. Todas las selecciones estudiadas presentan un somatotipo endo-mesomórfico a excepción del equipo juvenil que presenta un somatotipo meso-endomórfico. Los resultados corroboran que existe un prototipo de jugadora de balonmano similar en todas las categorías.
