Descripción
Sumario:This article deals with the definition of the meanings of verbs of inaction in English. The analysis is carried out within the framework of verbal classes and alternations and the theory of Role and Reference Grammar. The article applies the lexical representation of inaction verbs to the definition of meanings, a task of lexicographical work. The main conclusion of this work is that meaning definitions based on lexical representation contribute to a more systematic lexicographical practice and avoid some of the issues that arise in Lexicography meaning definition such as circularity, obscurity, single-clause-when definitions and lack of precision due to the limitations of the defining language.
