| Resumo: | [EN] This paper focuses on the role of classics in literary education. First of all, we place the problem of the classics in the context of the current crisis of humanistic education. Then we try to demonstrate how the concept of literary classic as we understand it today is inseparable from the historicist model of teaching literature that the most recent paradigms aim to overcome. Finally, we make a critique of the idea of direct reading and we list three reasons to continue reading the classics in the classroom. |
