Descripción
Sumario:Even though the coast of Huelva is considered as a low seismic and tsunamigenic hazardous area, it has suffered numerous marine high-energy events during the last thousands of years. In this work, we have classified the urban areas and the heritage elements of the coast of Huelva that will result damaged in a scenario similar to that of the tsunami that occurred after the Lisbon earthquake in 1755, with a maximum run-up of 10 m a.s.l. We have also established a vulnerability index using the PTVA-3 model for the buildings of Ayamonte, Isla Cristina, Lepe, Cartaya, Punta Umbría and Huelva, and described the damages that would occur. The existence of natural barriers, such as woods or saltmarshes, may in some cases reduce the destructive effects of the tsunami, even if all the communities, except Huelva, present >50% of buildings with very high and high vulnerabilities in case of an event with these characteristics.
