| Sumario: | The star index of of Andromeda Constellation in the different writings which depend from Eratosthenes' Kataterismoi shows great differences. The author brings to light a new piece of evidence of the Greek original, picked out from its mediaeval translation, known as Aratus Latinus. Following this variant, Andromeda appears tied to a pair of oars (an iconographical image also known from ancient vases). It may well be that Sophocles himself was inspired by this tradition of Andromeda's exposure to the sea monster when he wrote his Andromeda. |
