| Resumo: | Many manifestations of tourism have the capacity to cause conflicts between hosts and guests. Central to the problem is that tourism can encroach upon the host population and its culture, disrupt the structure of a local community, contribute to or reinforce stereotypes of hosts and guests, and possibly increase opportunities for crimes. These and other negative consequences can lead to misunderstanding, xenophobia, and eventually hostility toward tourists and even the businesses catering to them (Jafari 1990). |
