For high-power medium-voltage APF, low-switching frequency modulators are preferred over standard carrier based-PWM, which often requires derating of the power converter current due to the high-switching losses. This PhD Thesis presents a closed-loop controller for high-power medium-voltage APFs, based on selective harmonic control - PWM (SHC-PWM), featuring a good trade-off between dynamic response, steady state performance and low-switching frequency. However, the SHC-PWM presents some challenges like the efficient calculation of the switching angles, the exponential increase of the size of the solution space when the number of low-order harmonics to control increases and the implementation of the closed-loop control system assuring a good balance between dynamic and stationary response.
