| Sumario: | This work offers a detailed and contextualized portrait of Johann Jakob Froberger (1616–1667), one of the most influential composers and keyboard virtuosos of the 17th century. The author explores Froberger’s life through a careful study of his documented service at the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III and his later patronage under Duke Wilhelm of Württemberg in Stuttgart. Central to the study is Froberger’s unique role as a cosmopolitan artist whose extensive travels through Italy, France, and the Germanic territories exposed him to diverse musical traditions, which he synthesized into a distinctive personal style. |
