Descripción
Sumario:This essay intends to examine the “seductive yet troubling appeal” of postfeminist fatherhood in U.S. cultural manifestations, as well as “the viability of its hegemony” (Hamad 135). More specifically, it seeks to understand the evolution of hegemonic ideals of fatherhood and paternity that has led to this particular configuration. In addition, it analyzes the way in which fatherhood has been represented in contemporary U.S. literature in order to elucidate the particularities of paternal representation in this medium. I contend that there are several strategies and mechanisms being used in literature that can effectively generate nonpatriarchal representations of fatherhood, and in this essay, I propose that these strategies could be transferred to and explored in other media.
