Description
Summary:This thesis is focused on the the recovery of the materials and of the documentation from Roger Saidah’s excavations in the Phoenician necropolis of Khaldé (Beirut, Lebanon). The necropolis was extensively excavated during the 1960s. More than 400 tombs were uncovered. Due to the untimely death of Saidah and to the loss of a large part of the documentation during the Lebanese civil war, the final report of the excavation was never published. The study of the materials stored in the National Museum of Beirut and the recovery and cross comparison of all the data which survived the war, provide valuable information about the material culture, the funerary practices, the spatial organization of the cemetery and its evolution from the Early to the Late Iron Age.
