In total, 25 species of necrophilous Histeridae were collected using carrion-baited traps. As a result, six groups of species can be distinguished according to their habitat preferences. These groupings depend on either the distribution among habitats or their restriction to certain habitats. Moreover, within each habitat, the type of vegetation was a factor structuring histerid communities, with those species with wide distribution throughout several habitats showing a preference for more open areas.A pesar de la importancia aplicada de los histéridos necrófilos, sus comunidades y sus preferencias de hábitat no habían sido caracterizadas en la Península Ibérica. El presente artículo describe la composición de dichas comunidades en siete tipos de hábitats naturales a lo largo de un gradiente bioclimático en el centro de España, describiendo y discutiendo las preferencias de hábitat y las amplitudes de nicho de las especies más abundantes. En total, se capturaron 25 especies de Histeridae necrófilos utilizando trampas cebadas con carroña. Como resultado, pueden distinguirse seis grupos de especies según sus preferencias de hábitat, dependiendo de su distribución entre hábitats o su restricción a determinados hábitats.
