Sumario:This paper aims to analyse the impact of private equity funds in creating value through leveraged buyouts. Specifically, it focuses on identifying the value drivers that contributed to the value creation of Golden Goose following its acquisition by Permira, and provides an in-depth analysis of the exit prospects. The first section of this thesis presents an overview of the private equity industry and the retail apparel market. This is followed by a comprehensive analysis of the fundamentals of private equity structuring and how private equity funds create value through LBOs, with a focus on measuring the main value drivers and the returns achieved. In the second part, academic literature currently applied to the private equity industry is utilised to analyse the returns achieved in the Golden Goose deal and asses Permira’s exit routes for the divestment.
