Sumario:The author focuses upon the factual character of the power of the mass media which falsely endows itself with both democratic legitimacy and the ability to translate a fictitious popular will. According to Salvador Cardús, this is the origin of the power of the media as well as the fact that they become the stage upon which the other branches dispute their struggle. However, this is no excuse for the abuses that have recently been sensationalized by certain press sectors. Therefore, it becomes necessary to regulate and legislate the press, as the author finally defends.
