Descripción
Sumario:This paper is a preliminary research on approaches of re-gardening the Chinese city, aims to transform those abandoned spaces and unreasonal boundaries into new gardens and revive a tradition of gardening that has been almost extinct in Chinese cities. First, taking approach by archaeological of knowledge, this paper retraces the complex relationship between gardens, architecture and landscape by reviewing art historian Rosalind Krauss' famous "logical operation". Using a similar four-group diagram, by identifying three kinds of gardens in Asia (including Chinese classical garden, Japanese Zen garden and Indian Mughal garden), this paper locates these three types of gardens by "logical operation". Then through cases study, this paper further summarizes three re-gardening approaches which derived from the three aforementioned garden traditions, namely Place-rewriting, Nature-naturalizing and Mat-gardening. Finally, this paper selects 6 sites in Nanjing and proposed three types of new gardens by re-gardening strategy to verify and complement the forementioned approaches.
