| Sumario: | This study presents a panoramic overview of the scientific production related to martial arts published in Spain from the last decade of 20th Century to the present. The research starts from the analysis of Doctoral Theses, scholar books and articles published in the main journals of Physical Education and Sport Sciences as well as other Spanish scholar journals. The results show a diverse scientific production, covering Human and Social Sciences (Philosophy, Pedagogy, Psychology, Sociology, History, etc.) and Experimental and Health Sciences (Theory and Practice of Training, Physiology, Biomechanics, Sports Medicine, etc.). There are some relevant areas in both fields such as Pedagogy, History, Theory and Practice of Training or Physiology of martial arts. Likewise, it can be seen that judo is widely the most researched for martial arts. This is in accordance with judo institutional development in Spain, and especially with its presence as an important content of many current curricula in Physical Education and Sport Sciences Higher Education Degrees. The lack of studies on other martial arts, that nowadays have an important social presence, reveals the interest in orienting new researches on these practices in order to support their knowledge and development. |
