| Sumario: | [EN] The text presents and analyzes Vittorio Filippini's scenographic project for the Arena di Verona duringthe 1950 opera season. At that time, and for several years prior, different scenographic approaches wereapplied in the Arena. On one hand, the operatic performance was adapted to the unique characteristics ofthe amphitheatre; but frequently came into conflict with one another when they had to coexist on the Arenastage within the same season. The solution adopted by Filippini resolves both issues. The study examines theformal articulation and the architectural devices of the innovative set design system introduced by the Veronesearchitect, through which he succeeded in reconciling the requirements of operatic spectacle with the spatialcharacteristics of the monument, while at the same time reworking and surpassing the proposals put forwardby his colleagues of the period. |
