Descripción
Sumario:[EN] West Nile virus represents a growing threat in Spain for over 20 years, and particularly since 2020, due to an increase in its circulation and virulence in both humans and several animal species. From a public health perspective, the presence of this virus in our country demands the enhancement of surveillance and detection measures to enable a better control allowing to prevent potential infections through human activities (especially in the healthcare field). This work reviews the main characteristics of this virus, its presence worldwide and in Spain, its diagnostic methods, as well as different approaches for its study and characterization.
