| Sumario: | This work aims to examine some of the extensive patronage network that crystallised around the Counts of Tendilla in 16th- and 17th-century Granada. The topic is relevant for the study of the Early Modern Age because the counts, and offshootof the famous House of Mendoza, led one of the most powerful and well-known lineages in the Iberian Peninsula and were the most prominent family to settle in Granada after the city’s conquest by Castile. They were soon afterwards awarded the Marquisate of Mondéjar, the general captaincy of the Kingdom, and the governorship of the fortress of the Alhambra, titles which they held for most of the 16th century. |
