Sumario:[EN] Some of the most oh reported and inaccurate cliches about he intellectual personality of Julio Caro Baroja are lo describe him as an armchair scientist, an expert in unnecessary matters and dead languages, always working in dark and dusty library rooms Contrary to this notion, a very different picture of him is presented in his paper; one of o skilful field ethnographer and observer of very different cultural spheres. The article specifically refers to the expedition that Coro Barona together with the historian ~ I ~ u~eolli naC ampuzano, made b the Spanish colony of Western Sahara between November, 1952 and February, 1953. Both researchers later made and published a precise record of the lifestyles and social structure of the nomadic desert groups.
