Resumo:The corpora of cuneiform divination as well as medical prescriptions offer information about different forms of skin lesions. As abnormalities of the skin naevi became subject to the divinatory disciplines of physiognomy or morphoscopy, teratology, as well as of prognostics. On the other hand some of these skin lesions were treated medically. The present paper aims at collecting and discussing the relevant text material about the Akkadian term kurāru “carbuncle”; it is the first part of a series of articles about skin lesions and skin diseases.
