| Summary: | [EN] ABSTRACT The establishment in Ribesalbes of the Earthenware Factory of Joseph Ferrer, in 1780, has a tradition of pottery which is credited in this PhD thesis, certifying the presence of ceramist artisans in Ribesalbes, at the beginning of the 18th century. Also it is determined the names of some potters registered at the dawn of the 19th century from different primary documentary sources, which include the parish archives of Ribesalbes sacramental books, the Contribución General de 1817 and the Padrón general de 1843; and the relationship of workers linked to the factories of earthenware and the professional structure of the population of Ribesalbes, in 1817. In addition, the two industrial areas par excellence of Ribesalbes: la Ollería and la Llometa are accredited, since the beginning of the 19th century. Settling the concrete location of the Earthenware Factory of Joseph Ferrer, and the name of some of their workers as well. On the other hand, the factories and varnish mills in the Barony during the first half of the 19th century are related; identifying owners and their workers, as well as their locations in Ribesalbes boundary. Recomposing the genealogy of pottery manufacturers, the major ceramic Ribesalbes sagas are gathered and articulated; establishing family ties existing between some of them. Especially among the lineages of Ferrer Almiñana, Garcés Benages and Figas Osed. The research concludes with the cataloging of the ceramic legacy of Dr. Francesc Esteve, deposited in the Museum of Fine Arts in Castellón. Cataloging from which analysis of the formal type, the colour palette, marks and inscriptions, the artistic style and the main decorative themes of Ribesalbes ceramics from the first half of the 19th century are set. |
