Traditionally they have been used as combustion fuels but growing environmental concerns have driven the researchers to find new applications in the synthesis of high-value molecules with socio-economic and medical applications to improve the world welfare. General alkylation protocols described, often are toxic, polluting and inefficient, generating stoichiometric amounts of waste. Despite progress on this field, some existing methods rely on harsh conditions, limiting industrial applications.
