Descripción
Sumario:The paper wants to develop a new perspective on the influence of gender in bertsolaritza and aims to reflect the way it functions. This perspective, without overlooking elements and events highlighted by gender studies up to now, seeks to detect and suggest certain other factors. In that regard, the audience, the bertsolari, and the bertso are the protagonists, and the aim of this paper will be to examine the relationships that emerge and the links among them. In order to carry out this approach it will take into account the culture of the word rooted in Basque culture, following the thread of Joseba Zulaika’s work (1988). Other contributions will be incorporated, including those of John Foley, in which the role fulfilled by the audience in orality is extoled, its participation becoming a key variable. Therefore, in the field of communication established by the bertso, there is an encounter between the audience and the bertsolari, with the norms and obligations established by the gender system forming part of the performance.
