| Sumario: | This work examines Cooperative Housing projects currently working under a Cession-of-Use model in Barcelona. Following the economic crisis and the housing emergency there has been a rise in housing initiatives that seek to challenge traditional definitions of the Spanish dwelling. Among these initiatives, one explicitly championed by public authorities is Cooperative Housing under a Cession-of-Use model. The aim of this thesis is to examine these project’s ability to meet the principles of collectivity, adaptability and affordability, as framed by Karel Teige in “The Minimum Dwelling” (1932). Through graphic and descriptive analysis informed by historical data and theoretical principles, an assessment of the five Case Studies is made. The findings put into perspective the projects’ abilities and limitations to meet Minimum Dwelling principles. The research suggests that while Cooperative Housing under the Cession-of-Use model has the potential to redefine urban living in Barcelona, it requires regulation that considers its specificity, as well as a broader scope in order to achieve necessary scalability. |
