Descripción
Sumario:Archaeological excavations carried out in recent years at the site of Santa Margarida (L'Escala) are part of the current research project promoted by the Empúries section of the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya, which aims to study the ancient port areas of the Greek city of Emporion and the Roman city of Emporiae. The results of these works provide new arguments about the location of the Late Antique episcopal complex of Empúries in this area, as well as evidence relating to some of the buildings that made it up, such as the baptistery and the basilica or funerary church. A new settlement developed around this episcopal complex that, according to recent paleolandscape studies, was located next to the estuary of the river Ter, which then flowed immediately to the North of Sant Martí d'Empúries, the other main nucleus in this historical period
