| Sumario: | This paper presents the results of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the trends in direct style utterances according to (i) the position of its members in the sentence and (ii) the syntax and semantics of the opening expression (subject and verb) of the quotation. To this end, we use for the empirical dissertation a set of around three thousand direct-style utterances extracted from two well-known Spanish linguistic corpora: (i) Archivo de Textos Hispánicos de la Universidad de Santiago and (ii) Corpus de Estilo Directo Atípico en Español. The obtained results allow revealing: (i) the positional freedom of the introductory element, with a marked tendency to postposition, (ii) the omission of the subject (whose position also conditions the position of the quotation), and (iii) the use of a wide range of verbs belonging to different semantic classes, although those with a declarative value are predominant (although not exclusive). |
