Resumo:The purpose of this article is to discuss the relationship between socialization and interest in politics among young people in Chile in the framework of theories relating to political socialization and political culture. These state that the orientations of individuals are acquired through processes of reciprocal relationships with others and with institutions. Using the results of the Metropolitan Survey on Youth Political Behavior (2012), conducted with young people (aged 18 to 25 years) resident in the city of Santiago, and applying logistical regression models, the authors verify that the main explanatory factor of interest in politics is engaging with friends on this topic, highlighting the importance of the socializing context
