| Sumario: | The present research work aims to address the expertise and intervention of an unpublished work, "Saint Francis de Sales", by the Valencian painter José Vergara (1726-1799). There are several studies that are conducted on this work to verify its authorship and value. First of all, a biographical review of the painter is carried out, paying special attention to the artistic technique and its importance within the Valencian painting of that time. Subsequently, an iconographic review is given to confirm that it is a representation of St. Francis de Sales and briefly includes the life of the Saint and his main artistic representations. In order to relate the painting in question with the production of Vergara, the compositional-stylistic aspects are discussed vis-à-vis those of his other works. On the other hand, despite its good condition of conservation initially presenting, an intervention plan is addressed so as to prolong the work¿s preservation as time goes by. |
