Sumario:Abstract: Reading a book of the belgian writer Amélie Nothomb is an act of passion and dedication: through her characteristic style, filled with rhetorical images that she perfectly masters, the reader plunges into a nice and immoderate atmosphere in which reality merges with exaggeration. This is mostly referred to her autobiographical novels: in Métaphysique des Tubes The Character of Rain ) she travels through times and memories to give us a recollection of her first three years of living. By applying in this book to the point of view of a child, the author let the reader feel the same sensations as the main character, thanks to the accuracy of a precise syntax, where the speech is filled with intensification methods, becoming an implicit network underlying the main history, being by definition the real outline of the description of reality. Intensity is, in Nothomb’s book, a stylistic and narrative necessity, revealing its creative force through many lexical forms that we aim to identify and categorise in this article.
