The present ‘voice entry’ has a triple goal: first of all, it presents a brief sketch of its uses, with special attention to the changes that took place in the beginnings of modernity; secondly, it addresses analytically a comprehension of the two constitutive elements of the concept (the independent notions of “virtue” and “civic”); last of all, we intend to explore where does civic virtue come from for the liberals as well as the republican thinkers, the latter focusing on the importance of material Independence of individuals.[ES] El concepto de virtud cívica ha sido uno de los más recurrentes en la historia de la filosofía moral y política. La presente voz se propone un triple objetivo: en primer lugar, presentar un breve recorrido histórico de sus usos, atendiendo especialmente al cambio que se produce en los inicios de la modernidad; en segundo lugar, plantear analíticamente una comprensión de los elementos constitutivos del concepto (las nociones independientes de «virtud» y «cívico»); por último, explorar de dónde surge la virtud cívica, atendiendo tanto a los planteamientos liberales como a los planteamientos republicanos, estos últimos centrados en la importancia de la independencia material de los individuos.Esta investigación es posible gracias a un contrato FPU (19/02565) del Ministerio de Universidades, y se enmarca en las actividades del Proyecto INconRES (PID2020-117219GB-I00): «Incertidumbre, confianza y responsabilidad.
