Description
Summary:[EN] Toros del Navazo (Albarracín, Teruel) rock art shelter contains an important group of cave paintings, traditionally defined as Levantine. The nature of the rhododenum stone (Triassic sandstone) on which the paintings were made, and the extreme conditions in which the whole complex is found, determine the state of conservation of the shelter itself, so that erosion and loss of material cause the decohesion of the support. For this reason, it is important to establish a specific consolidation methodology adapted to cave painting, since the interventions carried out up to now have worked with predefined standards coming from mural painting. The main objective of this study is to generate a consolidation methodology for the Toros del Prado del Navazo shelter that can be extrapolated to other similar shelters, in order to stabilize the support and the paintings. This consolidation aims to stop the alteration mechanisms that accelerate the degradation of the paintings, allowing the cohesion of the particles and improving the mechanical characteristics. Thus, it is proposed to carry out a test with test tubes with the use of new products related to the physical-chemical nature of the original material that allows a comparison of them and the selection of the consolidation material that behaves better with the support and the paint.
