Este trabajo también reflexiona sobre las teorías lingüísticas de significado y uso relacionadas con la utilización de recursos cómicos, como son el Principio de Cooperación de Grice y la Teoría de los Actos de Habla de Austin y Searle. Además, este trabajo examina en detalle los recursos literarios y filosóficos de la ironía y la paradoja, para poder así distinguir sus definiciones y tipologías. Finalmente, se ha analizado el uso de estas herramientas en la obra, para comprender cómo los recursos cómicos han sido empleados en forma de crítica social en The Importance of Being Earnest de Oscar Wilde.[EN] This master’s thesis will examine Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (1895). To that aim, it will firstly analyse the historical and literary background of the play, the Late Victorian period, in order to highlight the key features of the age. It will also reflect upon the linguistic theories of meaning and use relevant for an understanding of the play’s comedic resources, namely: Grice’s Cooperative principle and Austin & Searle’s Speech Act Theory. Then, it will examine in some detail the philosophical and linguistic concepts of irony and paradox as literary devices, with the intention of clarifying their definitions and typologies. Finally, it will explore the use of these devices in the play, in order to understand how comic resources are also employed as forms of social criticism in Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.Jaén: Universidad de JaénLópez-Peláez Casellas, Jesús Universidad de Jaén.
