Artificial laboratory breeding of xylophagous insect larvae and its application in cytogenetic studies

[EN] An analysis is offered of different artificial diets used to rear xylophagous beetles in the laboratory. A comparison is made between a diet recently developed by us (VIEDmA et al., 1985b) and those of GALFORD (1969), CAREE (1969) and YEARIAN and WILKINSON (1963). Account is being taken of the...

Descripción
Sumario:[EN] An analysis is offered of different artificial diets used to rear xylophagous beetles in the laboratory. A comparison is made between a diet recently developed by us (VIEDmA et al., 1985b) and those of GALFORD (1969), CAREE (1969) and YEARIAN and WILKINSON (1963). Account is being taken of the reasons behind the adaptations we made towards achieving our main objectives, mainly the taxonomic and cytogenetic studies currently in progress, which are briefly summarized.
