Sumario:The operating room is a highly specialised context, where a high level of training and knowledge is required. A great number of studies reveal the existence of fear, stress and anxiety amongst novice nurses and nursing students when they face clinical practice in operating rooms, and especially the scrub role. This activity requires a certain level of knowledge of the surgical procedure so that the nurse can anticipate the surgeon¿s needs. Considering the great number of surgical procedures existing within each specialty, and the important variability amongst the surgical instruments used in each procedure, the integration of novice nurses or nursing students in the scrub role can be challenging and difficult.
