| Resumo: | Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the integration of information technology into kindergarten music education and, more broadly, into preschool education. This required an in-depth exploration of the applicability and effectiveness of information technology in these contexts. Methodology: The research methods employed in this study were designed to assess the impact of information technology on children’s musical ability in rural areas. A mixed method approach was used to achieve this. A random whole-group sampling procedure was employed to select 69 children from two upper-grade classes of kindergartens in a poor county. These children were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Prior to the experiment, there was no significant difference in the level of musical ability between the two groups of children. This study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis, which were conducted over an 18-week period during which an existing IT application programme was implemented. The musical abilities of the children were evaluated before and after the experiment using the PMMA (Primary Measures of Music Aptitude) scale. Result: The findings of the study indicated that information technology had a positive impact on the musical abilities of rural preschool children, particularly in terms of superficial learning of music. However, the improvement was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Musical abilities (melodic and rhythmic) were improved. The impact of information technology on children’s musical ability differed by gender, with boys demonstrating more significant improvement. |
