| Resumo: | Güvenpark, located in Ankara, has evolved from a planned park into a complex urban threshold shaped by shifting political, social, and infrastructural paradigms. Originally conceived within Jansen’s master plan as a green urban junction, which was a symbol of modernism in “Nation Building”. Its transformation from a designed public park into a transit hub, a protest site, and a securitized space reflects broader urban paradigm shifts, wherein governance strategies and sociopolitical dynamics mediate access, perception, and function. The historical and spatial transformation of Güvenpark has weakened Kızılay’s identity as a commercial center, as increased security measures and restricted access have altered its function as a public gathering space. Drawing on the concept of “threshold spaces” as sites of negotiation between control and openness, this study examines Güvenpark’s sequential evolution and its implications for Ankara’s urban fabric. This thesis investigates the evolution of Güvenpark as a transitional space, in the case of evolution of threshold in paradigm shifts such as analysing its historical trajectory, contemporary constraints, and potential future reconfigurations. Through the research explores how public spaces can be reclaimed from securitization and repurposed as dynamic arenas of collective urban life. |
