Sumario:One of the most important problems in public health is the emergence of multi resistant antibiotics bacteria and the lack of treatments for infections caused by those microorganisms. Although it was believed that this germs were only associated to nosocomial and perhaps community acquired infections in a project carried out with high school student it has been demonstrated that bacteria resistant at least to three antibiotics have been isolated from the commensal microbiota of the skin and the oral mucosa of the participants. With the lack of effective treatments against multi resistant bacteria it has been essayed the potential antimicrobial activity of plant essential oils against the isolated bacteria. Essential oils extracted from Thymus zygis and Satureja montana were the most effective against all the isolated microorganisms and two control strains. Essential oils should be investigated as one of the best candidates to new therapeutic agents against some infections, for example those affecting the skin, caused by multi resistant antibiotics bacteria.
