Description
Summary:Against the backdrop of the Counter-Reformation and Humanism, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit, erected by the bishops and archdeacons of the eminent Simancas family, beginning in 1568, houses decorations and a set of artistic works revealing the existence of a visual programme clearly reflecting an interest in transmitting their fame and power, the prestige of their surname, and their prominence as defenders of the Christian faith in the wake of the emphatic resolutions adopted at the Council of Trent, especially those related to the veneration of relics and the sacraments of the Eucharist and baptism.
