En razón de este paradigma, el objetivo de la presente investigación se centra en validar las prescripciones médicas en pacientes insulinodependientes ambulatorios del Centro Clínico Quirúrgico Ambulatorio Hospital del Día Santo Domingo IESS, ubicado en la provincia Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas-Ecuador. El marco metodológico aborda un enfoque mixto, que combina la investigación cualitativa y cuantitativa, con una modalidad observacional analítica y descriptiva, y de tipo no experimental y longitudinal. La población estuvo constituida por aquellas prescripciones médicas procedentes de los pacientes ambulatorios insulinodependientes, las mismas que previamente fueron validadas y documentadas por el ente responsable, abarcando un total de 25 casos. Los resultados demostraron que el 65% de los casos derivan del año 2019 con predominio en el sexo masculino (56%), y que, además, la dependencia en donde se registraron mayores errores fue en la medicina familiar (52%). El medicamento prescrito que sustentó un mayor nivel de error fue la insulina de acción rápida (41%), porcentaje que se le atribuyen a diferentes criterios tales como: la sobredosis (41%), dosis inferior (41%) y errores de prescripción (legibilidad, omisión, presentación) con el 17.9%. Con la finalidad de fomentar la validación efectiva y la reducción de errores en las prescripciones médicas, se desarrolló una guía de buenas prácticas conformada por 11 criterios específicos.The validation of medical prescriptions contributes to the fact that a particular treatment is suitable to meet the clinical needs of a patient, considering this process as a key element to guarantee the safety of users. Due to this paradigm, the objective of this research is focused on validating medical prescriptions in outpatient insulin-dependent patients at the Hospital del Día Santo Domingo IESS Clinical Surgical Center, located in the Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas province-Ecuador. The methodological framework addresses a mixed approach, which combines qualitative and quantitative research, with an analytical and descriptive observational modality, and of a non-experimental and longitudinal type. The population consisted of those medical prescriptions from insulin- dependent outpatients, which were previously validated and documented by the responsible entity, covering a total of 25 cases. The results showed that 65% of the cases derive from the year 2019 with a predominance in males (56%), and that, in addition, the dependency where the greatest errors were registered was in family medicine (52%). The prescribed drug that sustained the highest level of error was rapid-acting insulin (41%), a percentage attributed to different criteria such as: overdose (41%), lower dose (41%) and prescription errors (readability, omission, presentation) with 17.9%.
