Sumario:he author studies La hoguera bárbara as a book written in a double tradition of Latin American Literature, going on since the 1960's: it reconstructs the life of a caudillo (warlord), who aspires to re-found a sanse of 'national' and on the other hand, it is made problematic by the Iimits between history and literature, in that the text is an allegory of national and biographical fiction. La hoguera bárbara pro poses a historical visíon that makes the hero the central figure; it is of a distinct nationalistic character which allows understanding of the recuperation of this historical personage after the conflict with Perú in 1941. Beyond its literary value, the author proposes that La hoguera bárbara be read as a historical texto
