| Summary: | Universities in Ecuador have had several degree practices for undergraduate students. Public Ecuadorian Higher Education Institutions (IES) have dammed this academic activity,at “Universidad Central del Ecuador” the problem presented deep administrative and academic difficulties. To find a viable and sustainable solution, a policy was defined which would overcome the existing lag, without affecting academic strictness and establishing agile administrative processes. With these elements the policy "The trajectory of the undergraduate student finishes in the graduation". With it students of the seventy-two careers that the university offers, to graduate, based on the creation of new modalities, which will contribute to the professional development of our country. That experience is being shared with the Ecuadorian System of Higher Education since they have similar problems; therefore, it becomes a benchmark for the rest of institutions, by making them overcome their problems more easily and save time in the graduation challenges. The unit special of graduation has allowed the prevalence of the academic achievement over the administrative aspects by reconsidering policies, goals andprocedures and eliminating bad practices such as excessive or unclear bureaucratic procedures, and lack of standardized procedures. These new policies took advantage of Ecuador’s academic set of rules, above all the regulatory scheme that allows fluidityin the grading process. The university has changed the numeric trend of its results, changing from an annual average of three thousand graduates to surpass five thousand graduates. This success in the implementation was due to the improvement of institutional policies in order to complement the grading process through the support of technology, creation of appropriate communication flows, and the training of the staff involved in the process. |
