This is taken as an example the inventory of the sanctuary of the Virgin of El Quinche.Este artículo evalúa críticamente el registro del patrimonio cultural inmaterial ecuatoriano, realizado recientemente dentro del Inventario Nacional de Bienes Culturales de ese país. Concretamente en relación con la definición de patrimonio cultural inmaterial establecida por la unesco y su clasificación en ámbitos y sub ámbitos, el manuscrito señala los problemas que la aplicación de estos criterios ocasionó durante el inventario, el cual proyectó en sus resultados una imagen fragmentada y dispersa del patrimonio cultural nacional y, como consecuencia, de la cultura, cuya patrimonialización bajo criterios monumentales tiende a solidificarla.
